TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Taipei District Court detained Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) without bail and visitation rights on Thursday afternoon (Sept. 5) amid an ongoing corruption investigation, per CNA.
On Wednesday (Sept. 4) the Taiwan High Court asked Taipei District Court to review its earlier decision to release Ko, after prosecutors protested the decision.
Taipei District Court was asked to deliberate again and make a ruling on whether or not Ko knew about an alleged corruption scheme involving a property development when he was Taipei mayor.
Further details about the court's ruling are expected later Thursday evening.
The property development case involves a project by Core Pacific City that was granted a floor area ratio increase during Ko’s administration. Over NT$40 million (US$1.25 million) is alleged to have changed hands between the developer and members of Taipei City Council under Ko’s watch.
