TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Taiwan Navy reported that a stranding incident involving the Ching Chiang-class patrol ship Kao Chiang (PGG-609) occurred on Thursday (Sept. 5).
The Kao Chiang struck a sandbar as it was preparing to enter Kaohsiung’s Zuoying Harbor, reported UDN. The incident occurred at 3:15 p.m. and the vessel was immobilized for several hours.
According to the Navy, there were no injuries and the ship sustained no serious structural damage.
After the stranding was reported, the Navy promptly organized a rescue operation. However, the ship’s crew was able to dislodge the vessel from the sandbar on its own.
The Kao Chiang docked in Zuoying Harbor at approximately 7:30 p.m. An investigation into the incident will be completed and personnel aboard the Kao Chiang will be questioned about the event.
The Navy emphasized the ship’s capacity to serve has not been compromised.
