TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) conferred the title of “ITRI Laureate” on Nvidia president and CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) on Friday (Sept. 6).
According to a press release, other awardees at ITRI’s Laureate Ceremony included AMD CEO Lisa Su (蘇姿丰) and Acer chair and CEO Jason Chen (陳俊聖).
In a pre-recorded speech, Huang thanked ITRI for the honor and emphasized that Taiwan is home to many of Nvidia’s valued partners, according to CNA. He noted that everything Nvidia has achieved began in Taiwan, highlighting a long-standing history and friendship with the region.
Huang explained that partners like Asus, MSI, and Gigabyte — who were among the first to work with Nvidia on graphics cards — helped create today’s thriving PC gaming market. He added that Nvidia’s collaborations with Quanta and Foxconn led to the invention of AI supercomputers and modern data centers.
Nvidia is also working with Taiwanese industries to create robotic factories and is redefining chips through stacking and 3D packaging in collaboration with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), Huang reported.
Huang stated that AI is reshaping economies at an unprecedented speed and scale. AI-driven advancements will become central to every scientific field and industry, from healthcare to manufacturing, he said.
Furthermore, Huang said that as robotics technology advances, Taiwan can overcome population constraints and achieve growth. He added that just as ITRI played a crucial role in Taiwan’s chip and computer manufacturing, it will again be central in promoting AI and robotics research.
