TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A Taiwan Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Partnership delegation organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) visited Chile Sept. 2-6 for hydrogen energy talks.
During their trip, they stopped by Chile's National Development Agency (CORFO) and Foreign Trade Bureau (InvestChile) and exchanged views with hydrogen energy-related companies, per MOFA. The group also attended Hyvolution 2024, a hydrogen and fuel cell exhibition.
The group inked a cooperation agreement with the Chilean Hydrogen Association (H2 Chile), to accelerate Taiwan-Chile cooperation in the hydrogen energy industry.
MOFA said Taiwan will continue to convince Chile and other Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) member countries that its inclusion would contribute to mutual economic and trade development.
Chile launched its Green Hydrogen Diplomacy initiative in 2020, aiming to establish itself as a global hub for green hydrogen research, development, production, and export, according to MOFA. Taiwan also included hydrogen energy as one of the 12 action plans listed in its Net-Zero Roadmap in 2022.
In May, National Development Council Minister Paul Liu (劉鏡清) said developments in hydrogen technology could help Taiwan achieve its energy goals and become nuclear-free.
