TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A delegation of Taiwanese lawmakers visited the Dutch parliament on Monday (Sept. 9), building upon the Legislative Yuan’s parliamentary diplomacy.
The lawmakers were received by Raymond de Roon, acting chair of the House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee, and seven other representatives, CNA reported.
Legislator Chang Hung-Lu (張宏陸) emphasized historic and cultural ties between Taiwan and the Netherlands. Chang said the two countries cooperate in semiconductors, trade, and investment. He also hoped the Dutch parliament would continue to speak out for Taiwan and back the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between Taiwan and the EU.
Legislator Hung Shen-han (洪申翰) highlighted Taiwan's desire to be a moral leader in the face of China's authoritarian expansion. He noted that Taiwan and the Netherlands play key roles in the global semiconductor supply chain, stating they are "on the same boat" and look forward to deeper cooperation and strategic alliances.
Legislators Lin Chu-Yin (林楚茵) and Shen Fa-hui (沈發惠) thanked the Netherlands for its support and hoped for more bilateral exchanges.
The Dutch lawmakers asked the delegation how the Netherlands could assist Taiwan in responding to China's military pressure and strengthen Taiwan’s international participation. Derk Boswijk expected the newly formed Dutch cabinet to continue backing Taiwan.
