TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation (THSRC) will hand out free tickets to persuade foreign tourists to travel to central and south Taiwan, the Tourism Administration said Friday (Sept. 13).
Short-term visitors from overseas who buy a high speed train ticket to Taichung or to a station further south can have a companion travel the same route for free, per the Liberty Times. The program will not be available to foreign nationals who reside in Taiwan long term for work or studies, the report said.
Overseas offices of the Tourism Administration will advertise the formula in their countries. Information about the program is also available on the websites of travel organizations including KKday and Klook.
Encouraging visitors to travel south would help them discover more of Taiwan’s scenic wonders, gourmet foods, and local culture, the Tourism Administration said.
