TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tainan debuted tethered hot air balloon rides for its “seaside season” on Saturday (Sept. 14).
The two-day event takes place at Jiangjun Fish Harbor and marks the first time such an experience has been offered in the city's coastal areas, per CNA.
Previously, visitors could only see the area from above through aerial photography. The hot air balloon experience now offers a firsthand aerial perspective.
The harbor was chosen as the venue for the balloon flights due to safety regulations and weather conditions. Tickets for the hot air balloon experience went on sale early Saturday morning.
Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) noted the harbor's location at the intersection of land and sea creates complex air currents, leading to longer wait times for rides. However, favorable weather conditions allow visitors to enjoy breathtaking aerial views of the area.
Jiangjun District is known for its diverse ecosystem, including agricultural and fishery resources, as well as picturesque sunsets. The nearby Qingkunshen Fan-shaped Salt Fields are a significant wetland.
The "Tree of Life" art installation, a popular photo spot, adds to the district's appeal. Seaside Season also features a variety of other activities, including light shows, live music, and a market.
