TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Director Raymond Greene named resilience, security, and connectivity as his priorities for relations between Taiwan and the United States Saturday (Sept. 14).
Greene was speaking at an emergency response event organized by the Forward Alliance think tank in New Taipei, per Radio Taiwan International. The group helped raise public awareness about the challenges ahead, the US envoy said.
Greene said the efforts would not only benefit Taiwan, but also the international community, as the country played a vital role in global supply chains. Strengthening Taiwan’s resilience thus benefited the world’s security and prosperity directly, he said in his address.
The country was also experienced in coordinating efforts to respond to disasters, according to the AIT director. The experiences could be leveraged in other areas including cybersecurity, telecommunications, and energy, he added.
Greene also emphasized AIT interest in a medical response to emergencies and in energy resilience benefiting the climate, the economy, and energy security during a crisis. He praised the Forward Alliance for closing the gap between government departments, NGOs, and the private sector to improve coordination responding to emergencies.
