TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — One person was killed and five others, including three children, were hospitalized on Monday (Sept. 16) after being struck by a car driving on the wrong side of the road near a Hsinchu junior high school.
Police said the vehicle collided with motorcycles and pedestrians in front of Hulin Junior High School just before 4:30 p.m., per CNA. When emergency responders arrived, a 70-year-old woman had died from her injuries, and five others, including three children aged between four and eight, were sent to the hospital.
Police reported that one of the car’s occupants remained at the scene and passed an alcohol sobriety test following the incident. They said another occupant of the vehicle fled on foot, and a search is underway.
A replica firearm was found in the vehicle. Police said the occupants had not yet been tested for drug use, and the cause of the accident is under investigation.
