TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Economics Minister Kuo Jyh-huei (郭智輝) reaffirmed Taiwan’s commitment to net zero and green energy at a meeting with American Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan (AmCham) on Wednesday (Sept. 18).
The meeting marks Kuo’s first formal interaction with the chamber since taking office, per CNA. The minister briefed the attendees on the government’s future energy policies and investment plans.
Kuo said countries are focused on resilient supply chains and net zero emissions. To support low-carbon initiatives, he said the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) plans to revise Article 10-1 of the Statute for Industrial Innovation.
With Article 10-1’s investment credit set to expire at the end of this year, Kuo said a consensus has been reached with the Ministry of Finance (MOF). The investment cap will be raised to NT$1.8 billion (US$56 million) and will include investments in AI and net zero equipment and facilities.
Regarding energy issues, Kuo acknowledged that companies are concerned about the supply of green power. He said new power generation units should be online in 2030 and a geothermal well will be drilled next month, per UDN.
Kuo said he hopes for more international companies to participate in Taiwan’s globally renowned exhibitions such as SEMICON and Computex.
