TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA) issued an extremely heavy rain advisory for Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung County at 6:05 p.m. on Saturday (Sept. 21).
According to a CWA report, the advisory is set to last the entire evening, per CNA. Under the influence of a low-pressure system, there is a likelihood of short but heavy rain, it added.
The administration said areas north of Hsinchu, Nantou, Taichung, Chiayi, and the mountainous regions of Hualien have a chance of localized heavy rain.
The administration cautioned the public about lightning strikes and strong gusts of wind. Low-lying areas should be vigilant about flooding, and mountainous regions should be cautious of landslides, falling rocks, and mudslides.
“Extremely heavy rain” is defined as “24-hour accumulated rainfall exceeding 200 millimeters” while heavy rain is “24-hour accumulated rainfall exceeding 80 millimeters.”
