TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Rain is expected across much of Taiwan as the arrival of a new weather front follows the recent departure of a tropical depression.
On Monday (Sept. 23), the Central Weather Administration (CWA) issued a heavy rain advisory for Taipei, New Taipei, and Keelung, along with six southern counties and cities, and outlying islands, per China Times.
Meteorologist Lin Te-en (林得恩), head of National Taiwan University's Center for Weather and Climate Disaster Research, said on Facebook Hsinchu, Yilan, Hualien, and mountainous areas in Miaoli, Taichung, and Nantou could see heavy rain Monday afternoon. Lin warned various areas could see an increased risk of flooding and landslides.
According to CWA data, total daily rainfall on Sunday in New Taipei’s Pingxi and Ruifang exceeded 400 mm, with areas in Taipei, Beitou, and Keelung seeing over 300 mm.
Lin said that rainfall accumulation over the weekend was equivalent to a typhoon. Lin warned unstable weather is expected to continue until Tuesday, with rainfall in various areas gradually slowing later in the week as the weather front moves toward the East China Sea.
