TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan’s export orders rose by 9.1% in August compared to the same month last year due to strong demand for AI products, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) said Tuesday (Sept. 24).
The total for August reached US$50.22 billion (NT$1.62 trillion), marking the sixth consecutive month orders rose, per CNA. The total was also the third highest ever for August.
Export orders for the first eight months of 2024 totaled US$375.11 billion, 3.5% more than during the same period in 2023. Demand for products related to high-performance computing (HPC), AI, cloud computing, and new consumer electronic products fueled the rise.
Export orders for information and telecommunication products surged by 16% from August 2023, and electronics products by 13.2%. In contrast, the plastics and rubber sector declined 3.2% over the same period.
