TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Developer Farglory Group could see its management contract for the Taipei Dome revoked in 2026 if it fails to adequately address problems including recurring roof leaks, reports said Wednesday (Sept. 25).
Since the 40,000-seat arena began hosting baseball games in October, several events have been plagued by water leaks, forcing the partial closure of seating areas. As the Taipei Dome is scheduled to hold the National Day Gala on Oct. 5, concern has been mounting that repairs would not be completed in time.
The Taipei City Department of Sports said Wednesday the problems in the area where the gala would be held needed to be fixed by Oct. 4, the day before the event. Overall repairs needed to be completed by the end of October, with no roof leaks allowed later.
By the end of the year, an evaluation committee will be formed to conduct an overall review of the Taipei Dome, with a first round scheduled for September 2025, the Liberty Times reported. If results are below 70 points for two years in a row, the management contract could be revoked, the city said.
As the Taipei Dome was a build-operate-transfer (BOT) project, Farglory bore the responsibility for the adequate management of the site, according to the Department of Sports. The company’s failure to solve problems such as roof leaks had affected the rights of fans to watch sports events and their confidence in public construction projects.
Following the completion of fire safety reviews, the Taipei Dome can also be used as a venue for events unrelated to sports. Taiwan’s “King of Mandopop,” Jay Chou (周杰倫), will be the first act to perform a full concert at the site in early December.
