TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The Taiwanese community in Thailand has raised 4.8 million baht (NT$4.67 million) in flood relief aid for the north of the country, reports said Wednesday (Sept. 25).
Provinces including Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai have been battered by deadly storms for the past few months, with flooding still threatening Chiang Mai Tuesday (Sept. 24) evening, the Bangkok Post reported. In response to the disaster, four organizations of Taiwanese residents in Thailand decided to collect funds for the affected areas and their residents, per CNA.
The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand handed the 4.8 million baht raised during the Sept. 15-22 campaign to the Thai Red Cross Tuesday. Representative Chang Chun-fu (張俊福) told the meeting how the Taiwanese community had wanted to take action to offer assistance and relief to the flood-stricken regions.
The diplomat said the donation showed how Taiwan could help people and countries in need during natural disasters. Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic, the government has emphasized Taiwan’s capabilities to offer assistance and its positive role in the world.
