TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Wang Chi-min (王啟敏), Pingtung’s second longest-serving legislator, died in Indonesia on Friday (Sept. 27) aged 69.
Wang’s office told CNA the legislator was on holiday in Bali where he became unwell and went to the emergency department of a local hospital, and later passed away. Wang’s staff said that he died of a suspected heart attack.
His office said that Wang was in basically good health and news of his death came as a surprise. Wang’s family is expected to travel to Indonesia to make funeral arrangements on Saturday at the earliest.
The Kuomintang's Wang was a legislator for Pingtung County’s fifth electoral district and was reportedly well-liked by his constituents. He was Pingtung’s second longest-serving legislator, serving for eight consecutive terms.
According to a bio on the Pingtung County Government website, Wang was committed to protecting his constituency from flooding, an issue that caused the area frequent problems.
