TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Prosecutors on Friday (Sept. 27) questioned 16 witnesses and defendants, and raided 29 locations in their investigation into corruption related to former Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je (柯文哲).
The founder of the Taiwan People’s Party (TPP) is being investigated for the alleged payment of bribes by the Core Pacific Group to drastically increase the floor area ratio on a development project. While Ko has been detained incommunicado as a defendant since Sept. 5, he has also faced several rounds of interrogations since then.
The 10 defendants and six witnesses who appeared for questioning Friday were mostly Core Pacific Group senior executives and other employees, the Liberty Times reported. Earlier in the day, TPP Deputy Secretary-General Osmar Hsu (許甫) visited the Ministry of Justice Agency Against Corruption, but he was not questioned, the report said.
Apart from Ko, other defendants in the case to have been detained included his former Deputy Mayor Pong Cheng-sheng (彭振聲), Kuomintang (KMT) Taipei City Councilor Angela Ying (應曉薇), and Core Pacific Chair Sheen Ching-jing (沈慶京).
The latest stage of the investigation is reportedly focusing on money flows and on the decision-making process leading up to the change in the floor area ratio for the Core Pacific City project, per CNA.
