TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Ferry services in Taiwan's eastern waters will be canceled starting Saturday (Sept. 28) at noon due to the formation of Typhoon Krathon.
Ferry services between Taitung and Green Island and Pintung’s Houbihu and Lanyu will be suspended from Saturday noon to Oct. 1. Ferry services between Taitung and Lanyu will be canceled from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1, per CNA.
A tropical depression intensified into a mild typhoon at 8 a.m. Saturday, the Central Weather Administration said. Typhoon Krathon is expected to move west before turning northwestward toward Taiwan's eastern waters.
It is forecasted to be closest to Taiwan between Sept. 30 and Oct. 2.
Eight trips were arranged Saturday morning to transport passengers from Green Island and Orchid Island back to Taitung's Fugang Fishery Harbor. Some travelers, fearing they might be stranded on Green Island, ended their trips early.
Green Island residents have increased their efforts to replenish supplies to prevent shortages caused by the typhoon's transportation disruption.
