TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA) on Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 2) said Typhoon Krathon has lost some strength, but its movement has accelerated and is expected to make landfall in south Taiwan late at night.
According to the CWA, the eye of Krathon at 2 p.m. was about 120 km southwest of Kaohsiung, moving north-northeast at 9 kph. Krathon's rain bands have entered areas south of Yunlin affecting areas south of Miaoli.
CWA meteorologist Wu Wan-hua (伍婉華) said that as Krathon moves, heavy rainfall will continue in Hualien and Taitung, with increased rain in the south.
Wu also mentioned that Krathon will continue to weaken after making landfall Thursday (Oct. 3), but even if it downgrades to a tropical depression, it will still affect Taiwan’s weather.
After landfall, Krathon will continue to weaken, and if it downgrades to a tropical depression, the CWA will lift land and sea warnings and issue a tropical depression advisory.
