TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) said Friday (Oct. 4) that the central government will fully support local governments and provide assistance to restore homes in the wake of Typhoon Krathon.
In a Facebook post, Lai thanked the military for their efforts in restoring homes. “I express my gratitude to the military personnel for their hard work and dedication,” Lai said. "Together, we will quickly restore our homes.”
Lai said Typhoon Krathon brought strong winds and heavy rain to Kaohsiung and Pingtung, causing significant damage, per CNA. He reminded the public to be cautious of heavy rain and avoid mountainous or coastal areas.
As of Thursday (Oct. 3), Typhoon Krathon has left Taiwan with 123 people injured, two dead, and two missing.
