TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Flooding after Typhoon Krathon damaged art at Juming Museum in New Taipei, reports said Saturday (Oct. 5).
The museum, devoted to the works of late Taiwan sculptor Ju Ming (朱銘), is in the hills of Jinshan, one of the worst-hit areas Friday (Oct. 4). As the museum includes the country's largest outdoor art space, it was particularly vulnerable to rough weather.
Even works of art inside had been damaged as water entered the first floor of the building, the museum said. Several works were on loan from overseas for the “Fang Wu – Asian Contemporary Sculpture Exhibition,” per CNA.
The museum has been closed since Wednesday (Oct. 2) and will remain inaccessible to the public over the weekend to allow repair work. The museum said it would draw up an inventory of the damage, while the New Taipei City Cultural Affairs Department offered assistance.
As some roads to the museum reopened Saturday morning, staff returned to conduct the cleanup. The district government also supplied water pumps.
