TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwanese businessperson Su Chun-sheng (蘇春生) established the only Taiwanese fruit and vegetable farm in southern Malaysia in recent years, giving Malaysians a taste of Taiwan.
Located in Kluang, Johor state, Su’s 15,000 square meter farm is filled with Taiwanese fruits and vegetables, including bitter melon, cantaloupe, mangoes, and guava, per CNA. Su’s mission is to let Malaysians sample Taiwanese produce.
In 2018, well into his 70s, he converted a five-hectare brick factory in Kluang into the only Taiwanese fruit and vegetable operation in southern Malaysia.
The produce also enters the Singapore market. “Good fruit and vegetables should be generously shared with friends in Southeast Asian countries,” Su said. “Quality is the best spokesperson.”
“Young local farmers are willing to grow Taiwanese cantaloupes, with a quantity of up to 1,000 units,” Su explained. “They want to contribute more to agricultural exchanges between Taiwan and Malaysia.”
Su, who has lived in southern Malaysia for over 30 years, previously worked in the construction industry. He was a key player in southern Malaysia's economic boom by building industrial factories.
Malaysia is one of the target countries for Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy. Su said over the decades Taiwanese businesses have played a vital role in Malaysia’s development, fostering economic and cultural exchanges between Taiwan and Malaysia.
