TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – On her first overseas trip since leaving office, former President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) will visit the European Parliament in Brussels, reports said Friday (Oct. 11).
Her eight-day trip reportedly includes stops in the Czech Republic, France, and Belgium. Tsai’s first foreign voyage since the end of her eight years in office in May will feature a speech at the Forum 2000 conference in Prague.
Her meetings with members of the European Parliament will be a first for a former president of Taiwan, the Liberty Times reported. Tsai is expected to meet new members of the parliament elected in June and Taiwan’s numerous supporters and sympathizers in the assembly.
Tsai is scheduled to leave for Europe on Saturday (Oct. 12), and present a speech in Prague during the Oct. 13-15 conference on the theme of “Proving Democracy’s Resolve and Resilience.”
