TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A magnitude 5 earthquake rocked east Taiwan at 9:17 p.m. on Monday (Oct. 14), according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).
No injuries or damage from the earthquake were reported as of publication. Taiwan uses an intensity scale of 1 to 7, which gauges the degree to which a quake is felt at a specific location.
The quake’s intensity registered a 4 in Hualien County, Yilan County, Nantou County, and Hsinchu County. An intensity level of 2 was recorded in Taichung, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Miaoli County, Changhua County, Yunlin County, and Chiayi County.
An intensity level of 1 was reported in Taipei, Taitung County, Chiayi, and Tainan.
The CWA said its epicenter was 31.8 km northeast of Hualien County Hall, with a 20.5 km focal depth.
