TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A magnitude 5.2 earthquake rocked east Taiwan at 9:58 p.m. on Wednesday (Oct. 16), according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).
No injuries or damage from the earthquake were reported as of publication. Taiwan uses an intensity scale of 1 to 7, which gauges the degree to which a quake is felt at a specific location.
The quake’s intensity registered a 3 in Hualien County, Yilan County, and Nantou County. An intensity level of 2 was recorded in Taichung, Taitung County, Hsinchu County, New Taipei, Miaoli County, Changhua County, Yunlin County, Taoyuan, and Chiayi County.
An intensity level of 1 was reported in Taipei, Hsinchu, Keelung, Kaohsiung, Chiayi, Tainan, and Penghu County.
The CWA said its epicenter was 8.9 km east-northeast of Hualien County Hall, with a 25.2 km focal depth.
