TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tropical Storm Trami formed early on Tuesday (Oct. 22) but its projected path has shifted away from Taiwan.
The Central Weather Administration (CWA) said Trami is the 20th tropical storm of the year. Trami is predicted to move west-northwest to Luzon Island in the Philippines before entering the South China Sea and heading toward Hainan Island.
Meteorologist Daniel Wu (吳德榮) said Trami has a below 8% chance of directly hitting Taiwan, but its outer circulation could bring rain to windward areas. Wu said on Wednesday that a northeast monsoon will strengthen, bringing cooler temperatures and rain to the north and northeast and occasional showers in the east.
Wu said on Thursday and Friday, Trami's outer circulation will bring heavy rain to the north and east. On Saturday, Wu predicted rain in the east, while the west will see afternoon showers or thunderstorms.
