TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Vice Chair Wang You-ling (王幼玲) led a delegation to the Philippines for exchanges earlier this month.
Accompanied by Commissioners Yeh Da-hua (葉大華) and Tien Chiu-chin (田秋堇), Wang held discussions with the Commission on Human Rights of the Philippines (CHR) on topics including oversight mechanisms for human rights institutions, human rights education, and the operation of child rights centers, according to an NHRC press release.
Yeh and Tien also raised issues such as monitoring children’s rights and protecting human rights activists with the CHR. In a letter, NHRC Chair Chen Chu (陳菊) hoped to learn from CHR's practices.
The delegation also exchanged views with the Philippines' National Commission on Indigenous Peoples, the Ateneo Human Rights Center, and the Child Rights Coalition Asia. The NHRC said it expected the visit to deepen mutual understanding and foster more practical cooperation between Taiwan and the Philippines on human rights issues.
The NHRC has cooperated with the CHR on multiple occasions. The two commissions engaged with each other at the 2024 Asia Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions (APF) held in Thailand last month.
