TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tropical Storm Trami is expected to bring rain to north and east Taiwan on Thursday (Oct. 24).
The Central Weather Administration (CWA) issued a torrential rain advisory for Keelung, Taipei, New Taipei, and Yilan County and a heavy rain advisory for Taitung County. The CWA also released a strong wind advisory for several Taiwan coastal areas and outer islands.
Meteorologist Daniel Wu (吳德榮) said the north will turn cool with temperatures ranging from 18 to 24 C, 19 to 31 C in the central region, 20 to 32 C in the south, and 19 to 29 C in the east. On Friday, Wu said the east and mountains in the north could see heavy rain. On Saturday, rain is forecast for the east and scattered afternoon showers or thunderstorms in the west.
Torrential rain in mountainous areas of Yilan County caused a landslide at the 85k mark of Provincial Highway 7, blocking the road to traffic in Yingshih Village, per TVBS. In response, the Yingshih branch of Sih-Ji Elementary School in Datong Township suspended classes on Thursday.
Taitung County's Lanyu Township (Orchid Island) also announced that work and classes will be canceled starting at noon on Thursday.
