TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Mitac Chair Matthew Miau (苗豐強) received the Li Kwoh-Ting Award for contributing to Taiwan’s technological development on Monday (Oct. 28).
In his acceptance speech, Miau said with the advent of AI, Taiwan has seized another great opportunity, per CNA. He said many Taiwanese companies have become indispensable globally, including “protectors of the nation” Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and Delta Electronics.
Miau added companies need to understand the technical needs of each industry and what AI can accomplish. This development journey into AI will be lengthy, but Taiwan should be able to lead, he said per UDN.
Speaking about former Finance Minister Li Kwoh-ting (李國鼎), Miau said without him Taiwan's information industry would be many years behind where it is today, per Liberty Times. “The memories of working together and the bittersweet stories are vivid in my mind. Li was like a mentor to me and had a significant impact on my life,” he said.
Li, dubbed the “Father of Taiwan's Economic Miracle,” transformed the agrarian country into a powerhouse for information and telecommunications technology in the 1980s.
