TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Deputy Foreign Minister Francois Wu (吳志中) on Monday (Oct. 28) hosted the largest Dutch legislative delegation to visit Taiwan in recent years.
The 10-member group from the Lower House of Parliament in the Netherlands included Foreign Trade and Development Committee Chair Aukje de Vries, Defense Committee Chair Isa Kahraman, and Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC) Co-Chairs Jan Paternotte and Tom van der Lee, MOFA said.
The lawmakers from various parties were planning to exchange views about Indo-Pacific security, the Russo-Ukrainian war, and the promotion of relations between Taiwan and the Netherlands. During their trip, they will also meet President Lai Ching-te (賴清德), Legislative Deputy Speaker Johnny Chiang (江啟臣), and Economics Deputy Minister Chen Chern-chyi (陳正祺), and visit Hsinchu and Tainan.

De Vries mentioned the 400th anniversary of contact between the two countries, the stable development of trade and economic relations, and cooperation on technological innovation, education, culture, and agriculture. Wu thanked the Netherlands for passing a parliamentary motion in April supporting Taiwan’s efforts to join international organizations, and for sending the Navy frigate HNLMS Tromp through the Taiwan Strait in May.
