TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) delivered a keynote on Tuesday (Oct. 29) at the 2024 Junior Chamber International (JCI) World Congress in Taoyuan.
JCI is a non-profit NGO founded in the US that encourages young people aged 18–40 to become active citizens and participate in social and economic development, international cooperation, and goodwill. JCI has members in 124 countries with regional and international operations.
Hsiao said JCI's goals are consistent with those of President Lai Ching-te (賴清德). Furthermore, Lai’s administration has undertaken many initiatives to cultivate young leaders as well as promote greater international cooperation, per CNA.
According to information provided by JCI, Hsiao noted that more than 4,000 people from 100 countries attended the JCI World Congress. She assured attendees that the long trip to Taiwan would be worthwhile.

Hsiao added Taiwan was very proud of its food, diverse cultures, people, and industries. She noted Taiwan has advocated for a free, democratic society and believed freedom was the basis for innovation.
Hsiao said that JCI members enjoy greater access to information than their predecessors and also exhibit more creativity and have more opportunities to develop international connections. Hsiao said that Taiwan will continue to support the cultivation of young leaders and shares the same values as JCI, which encourages youth leadership and vibrant global networks.
The JCI World Congress is being held at the Taoyuan Convention and Exhibition Center from Oct. 28-Nov. 2. It includes sessions dedicated to leadership training, corporate innovation, and discussions about sustainability.
JCI World Congress attendees are also invited to visit local corporations to gain a better understanding of Taiwan’s culture and business.
