TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Veteran TV anchor Hu Wan-ling (胡婉玲) has been chosen as the new president of Taiwan’s public news agency.
The Central News Agency (CNA) reported that its new leader was chosen at a board of directors meeting on Wednesday (Oct. 30). She will begin the new role on Friday.
Hu said she hopes CNA will continue to be an authoritative information source under her leadership. She said CNA will remain committed to this ideal regardless of changes to the media environment.
She said she was somewhat surprised to receive the job because it differed from her previous roles. However, Hu said she sees the role as an opportunity to grow.
"This environment is a place where those with a sense of duty can make an impact, and pursue truth and accuracy in reporting," Hu said.
CNA Chair Lee Yung-te (李永得) said Hu is expected to lead the newsroom to produce objective, fair, and high-quality journalism while expanding its operations.
Hu has worked in the media industry for 36 years. She previously worked as a TV anchor for CTS and Formosa Television (FTV) and as FTV’s Taiwanese news producer, production director, and news department manager.
