TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Representative to Slovakia David Lee (李南陽) recognized the potential for deeper Taiwan-Romania ties on Tuesday (Oct. 29).
Speaking at a trade promotion conference in Bucharest, Lee said he would assist Taiwanese companies in exploring the Romanian market and strengthen investment and technological cooperation between the two countries, according to Taiwan's representative office in Slovakia. Romania's rich resources complement Taiwan's economy well, Lee said.
Constantin Damov, chair of the Association for the Promotion of Economic and Cultural Exchanges with Taiwan, said the East Asian nation’s excellent technology and talented workforce are worth learning from. He hoped that businesses from both sides could cooperate to explore market opportunities.
Mihai Daraban, president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania, said he plans to lead a delegation to Taiwan next year, emphasizing his nation’s geographical advantages as a European logistics hub.
The trade promotion event was organized by a delegation from the Taiwan External Trade Development Council and included 81 meetings between Taiwanese and Romanian businesses.
In March, a Romanian parliamentary delegation led by Catalin-Daniel Fenechiu visited Taiwan. During their six-day trip, the lawmakers stopped by government ministries and agencies to discuss bilateral ties and industry cooperation.
Taiwan already maintains close ties with other Central European nations including the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Poland. It does not have a diplomatic mission in Romania.
