TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Deputy Foreign Minister Remus Chen (陳立國) lauded close Taiwan-US cooperation on Wednesday (Oct. 30).
During a reception for American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Washington Office Managing Director Ingrid Larson, Chen thanked the US for helping Taiwan enhance its self-defense capabilities, MOFA said.
He also expressed gratitude for its consistent emphasis on peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. The deputy foreign minister said Taiwan will continue to advance a comprehensive partnership with the US and cooperate with like-minded countries to contribute to the international community.
Larson arrived on Oct. 28 for a five-day visit and is meeting with local officials “as part of the United States’ strong commitment to Taiwan and to advance growing US-Taiwan partnership,” according to AIT. Discussions will include US-Taiwan collaboration on regional security and trade, and people-to-people, educational, and cultural ties.
The AIT official has maintained close and friendly interactions with Taiwan, MOFA said. She last visited Taiwan while accompanying then-Deputy Assistant Secretary Camille Dawson for the third Taiwan-US Education Initiative Dialogue, the ministry noted.
