TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The New Jersey legislature recently passed two pro-Taiwan resolutions to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the US Taiwan Relations Act and the 35th anniversary of the sister-state relationship between Taiwan and New Jersey.
The New Jersey State Senate and General Assembly unanimously passed two pro-Taiwan resolutions on Oct. 28, Taiwan’s office in New York said. The resolutions reaffirmed the importance of the Taiwan Relations Act as the cornerstone of US-Taiwan relations.
The resolutions also supported the US government's continued assistance in Taiwan's participation in international organizations, such as the World Health Organization, International Civil Aviation Organization, and Interpol. They acknowledged New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy's establishment of an Asia-Pacific Economic and Trade Center in Taiwan as a step towards fostering economic growth and innovation through strengthened trade ties between Taiwan and New Jersey.
The documents emphasized the special and close connecti ons between Taiwan and the US at both the federal and local levels.
The New Jersey Asia Pacific Center opened in Taipei in May. Murphy said the office would lead to “new possibilities and prosperity for our workers and our families, in New Jersey, in Taiwan, and across the Asia Pacific region."
