TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — To promote mountain climbing safety and drone-based mountain rescue technology, the Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA) Administration for Digital Industries (ADI) visited Japan with the Metals Industry Research and Development Center (MIRDC) from Sunday (Oct. 27) to Wednesday for a drone rescue exercise.
During the visit, the administration witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between MIRDC and Japan UAS Industrial Development Association (JUIDA). The agreement aims to boost Taiwan-Japan collaboration in drone rescue technology and industry growth, marking a significant milestone in bilateral cooperation.
Under the administration's guidance, MIRDC showcased the drone's thermal imaging technology and visible light detection. The drone used infrared sensors to detect body temperature and switched to visible light for successful search and rescue, per ADI.
Ministry officials also visited JUIDA and local disaster response agencies to share examples of Taiwan's drone-based mountain rescue. Meanwhile, JUIDA shared its drone system safety guidelines, operator training program, and certification experiences.
With the support of 5G and drone technology, the ministry hopes to improve rescue accuracy and efficiency to strengthen public safety during mountain climbing and natural disasters.
