TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) and Idaho Governor Brad Little signed an MOU marking the 40th anniversary of sister relations between Taiwan and Idaho on Tuesday (Nov. 5).
Lin said Idaho established its Asia Trade Office in Taiwan in 1988, Liberty Times reported. He said Taiwan has become the state’s second-largest trade partner for eight consecutive years and its largest semiconductor trading partner, accounting for 40% of total bilateral trade. Taiwan also imports Idaho potatoes, wheat, and beef, the foreign minister added.
Little is dedicated to enhancing Taiwan-Idaho relations. Lin said the Idaho governor facilitated an MOU between the Idaho Department of Commerce and Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs in 2015 and signed an industry cooperation agreement during his 2022 visit to Taiwan.
The foreign minister emphasized the shared values between Taiwan and Idaho and the strong bond that developed over four decades. He thanked Little for his support for Taiwan’s democracy and acknowledged Idaho’s legislature for passing a resolution in March endorsing Taiwan’s international participation.
Lin reaffirmed Taiwan and Idaho’s shared goals in trade, education, and culture and their commitment to deepening cooperation.
The governor arrived in Taiwan on Sunday and is meeting with top government officials and business representatives to explore trade opportunities.
