TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The consumer price index (CPI) in October fell to 1.69%, its lowest level in three-and-a-half years, the government said Wednesday (Nov. 6).
Typhoon Krathon caused significant damage to agriculture, forcing up the price of fruit and vegetables, with vegetable oil and eating out. Rent and registered mail also became notably more expensive, per CNA. Nevertheless, the rises were offset by the falling cost of eggs, oil products, and airline tickets.
As a result, the CPI declined to its lowest level since April 2021. Leaving out the prices of fruit, vegetables, and energy products, core inflation fell to 1.64% in October, according to the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS).
