TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) met with Paraguay Senate President Basilio Gustavo Nunez Gimenez on Wednesday (Nov. 6).
Han said Taiwan and Paraguay have enjoyed 67 years of diplomatic relations and collaborate closely in areas such as agriculture, energy, and education, according to the Legislative Yuan.
Taiwan has become Paraguay’s largest export market for pork and second-largest for beef, he pointed out. He thanked Paraguayan President Santiago Pena for speaking up for Taiwan at the UN General Debate this year and supporting Taiwan’s international participation.
Han suggested that Taiwan and Paraguay deepen exchanges in technology and talent development to benefit national development.
Nunez commended Taiwan’s significant achievements over the past decades. This visit to Taiwan has been informative, he said. On behalf of Paraguayans and the parliament, he invited Han to visit Paraguay and deliver a speech.
The senate president emphasized that the friendship between Taiwan and Paraguay will remain unchallenged by external forces. He expressed gratitude to Taiwan for its longstanding support of Paraguayan youth education, which has laid a strong foundation for Paraguay’s prosperity and development.
Nunez is leading a delegation of lawmakers on a five-day trip to learn more about Taiwan’s development. In a meeting with President Lai Ching-te (賴清德), Nunez said Paraguay’s parliament strongly opposes regional tensions and advocates for the right to free navigation and mutual respect for human rights, freedom, and democracy.
