TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Giuseppe Errichiello, also known as Mr. Peppe, a renowned Italian pizza chef, makes his Taiwan debut at Sheraton Taipei's Pizza Pub with 13 dishes that fuse Italian and Asian flavors.
Hailing from Naples, Errichiello has been crafting pizzas since he was 12. With over 30 years of experience, he moved to Tokyo in 2006 and opened three restaurants. His pizzas have earned prestigious accolades, including the "3 Slices" award from Gambero Rosso, Italy's most authoritative food guide.
In 2023, his pizzas were ranked third in Asia's 50 Best Pizzas and 15th in the World's 50 Best Pizzas.
Errichiello's menu is a blend of traditional Neapolitan recipes and modern creativity. A special pizza featuring mango and passion fruit is among the offerings created exclusively for Taiwan.
A highlight of his menu is the iconic "Sun Pizza," inspired by the shape of the sun and combining the essence of Neapolitan calzone and margherita pizzas. The outer crust is filled with ricotta cheese and Italian sausage, while the top is adorned with mozzarella and fresh tomato sauce.
The pizza's chewy texture comes from a dough made with durum wheat flour and high hydration. The result is a crust with numerous air bubbles, offering a fragrant and satisfying bite.
This signature dish has quickly become a favorite among Taiwanese diners.
Another exclusive creation for Taiwan features San Marzano tomato sauce, Neapolitan buffalo mozzarella, seared scallops, mozzarella, raspberry coulis, mango passion fruit sauce, and Himalayan black salt.
Errichiello's romantic connection to Japan led him to bring authentic Neapolitan pizza to the country. His passion for food and his hometown is evident in his cooking, and his restaurants have become cultural gathering places in Tokyo, per Sheraton Taipei.
Errichiello aims to create a joyful dining experience for his guests, inviting them to savor not only the food but also the Italian spirit. The guest chef event offers two-person and four-person set menus, and a la carte options until Jan. 1, 2025, at Pizza Pub.
Additionally, Errichiello's signature pizzas and pasta dishes are available at Le Meridien Hotel during the Italian Food Festival until Dec. 31.
