TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The projected path of Tropical Storm Usagi (天兔) that formed on Tuesday (Nov. 12) has shifted north, while the Central Weather Administration (CWA) could issue a sea warning as soon as Thursday.
This is the first time four tropical storms, Usagi, Toraji, Man-yi, and Yinxing, have been active in the Western Pacific in November, per UDN. CWA forecaster Chu Mei-lin (朱美霖) said Usagi will continue to move northwest, approaching waters south of Taiwan on Wednesday and Thursday, but that its path is still uncertain.
A sea warning could be issued on Thursday, and a land warning is also possible, said Chu. Chu added Usagi will come closest to Taiwan on Friday and Saturday, per ETtoday. Chu said as Usagi approaches it could become a moderate typhoon.
From Friday to early Sunday, Hualien, Taitung, and the Hengchun Peninsula could see rain. On Sunday, Chu said the north and east could see rain and a drop in temperature.
Chu said Yinxing has entered southern Vietnam and is gradually weakening, while Tropical Storm Man-yi's impact on Taiwan will be unknown until next week. Tropical Storm Toraji has passed through the Philippines and entered the South China Sea, bringing increased cloud cover near Taiwan from Tuesday through early Wednesday.
