TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Deputy Legislative Speaker Johnny Chiang (江啟臣) landed in Miami Monday morning (Nov. 12) for his first stop in his trip to the US and Europe.
Chiang held discussions with Florida Representative Sheila Cherfilus McCormick and other pro-Taiwan officials, highlighting deepening Taiwan-US economic and trade ties. He suggested that Taiwan could enhance trade with Florida, given its status as the third top economy in the US.
Chiang invited Cherfilus McCormick and the other officials to visit Taiwan and take the bilateral friendship to new heights.
In the evening, the deputy speaker attended a dinner hosted by the North American Taiwan Chambers of Commerce Association (TCCNA). Chiang assured attendees that "the Legislative Yuan will always be a strong supporter of Taiwanese businesses," a consensus shared across party lines. He said the Legislative Yuan would collaborate with businesses to advance Taiwan’s diplomacy.
Chiang also stopped at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Miami. He praised the staff for their hard work and dedication. “These individuals, far from home, strive to open doors for Taiwan on the world stage, foster exchanges, and provide services to our citizens locally,” he said.
The deputy speaker will attend the 37th TCCNA joint board and supervisors meeting in Fort Lauderdale.
Before departing, Chiang said that through parliamentary diplomacy, the Legislative Yuan can build more international friendships, showcase the warmth and sincerity of the Taiwanese, and continue to advocate for Taiwan on the global stage.
