TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan envoy Lin Hsin-i (林信義) held bilateral talks with United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken during the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Peru on Thursday (Nov. 14).
Both sides agreed on the continued deepening of the partnership and exchanged views on how to promote regional peace and stability as well as Taiwan’s foreign relations, Radio Taiwan International reported. The two also discussed important economic cooperation issues, according to Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Kritenbrink.
After a meeting with youth leaders, Lin said he would still conduct bilateral discussions with representatives of four or five APEC member economies. The meetings are expected to occur Friday (Nov. 15) between official engagements, including a lunch with the APEC Business Advisory Council and a dinner for the APEC leaders, per CNA.
The Taiwan delegation also included National Development Council Minister Paul Liu (劉鏡清), who downplayed the scale of the meeting with Blinken. Both sides talked for a while, with Lin seizing the opportunity to thank the top US diplomat for his assistance, the Liberty Times reported.
