TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Commonwealth Publishing Group announced Friday (Nov. 15) that pre-orders have started for the second volume of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) founder Morris Chang’s (張忠謀) autobiography.
Commonwealth said the autobiography spans nearly 300,000 words across both volumes, per Liberty Times. At 93 years old, Chang uses “simple words and genuine feelings” to describe his career, family life, and life philosophy, the publisher said.
In the second volume’s preface, Chang said the first volume of his autobiography was published in 1998 by Commonwealth when he was 67 years old. He said, just like in the first book, he did not want to show off his writing skills, but instead to write genuinely.
In the first chapter, titled “Texas Instruments,” which takes up one-third of the book, Chang describes his golden years from 27 to 52, per CNA. His time at Texas Instruments allowed him to “climb high and see far.”
Chang said the remaining two-thirds are about TSMC, his most important and successful endeavor. Contrary to what the public might think, TSMC’s journey was not smooth, he explained.
Commonwealth said readers will understand how the “father of the wafer” pioneered a unique foundry model, establishing TSMC as a world-class enterprise and laying the foundation for Taiwan’s semiconductor industry.
