TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan envoy Lin Hsin-i (林信義) met US President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Peru on Saturday (Nov. 16) and thanked the US for its support.
The foreign ministry said Lin met Biden during a scheduled informal dialogue at which Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was also present, per CNA. The ministry said Lin discussed issues relevant to Taiwan and the US with Biden, thanked him for his contributions to US-Taiwan relations over the past four years, and invited him to visit Taiwan.
Lin also met US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Friday (Nov. 15).
The foreign ministry said Lin has a full schedule of meetings on Saturday. It said he will attend an informal meeting between APEC leaders and guests, a dialogue between economic leaders and representatives of the APEC Business Advisory Council, and a dinner meeting with APEC guests.
APEC describes its 21 members as "economies" rather than states. Taiwan joined the group in 1991 under the name “Chinese Taipei,” representing the economies of Taiwan and its outlying islands.
