TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tatung Forever Energy, a subsidiary of the Tatung Group, unveiled a 60 MW energy storage station in Yilan’s Dongshan Township on Wednesday (Nov. 20).
Tatung President Shen Bo-yen (沈柏延) noted in an address the development of renewable energy in Taiwan is focused on the integration of solar energy and energy storage. Shen said he continued to be optimistic about business opportunities in solar energy storage, per UDN.
Tatung’s 60 MW Dongshan storage station is 1,600 square meters, on which 23 containers are parked, each of which is outfitted with battery modules, transformers, and power regulation systems that offer power storage up to 85,000 kWh. Such capacity can meet the electricity needs of about 8,000 households for an entire day.
"Energy storage will play an important role in Taiwan, especially when it comes to new energy-generating capacity and stability," said Shen. He said the highlights of the company's energy storage system include frequency control and a real-time inertia measurement system to enhance power consumption stability.
Tatung’s Dongshan facility is also the first domestic facility to offer functions of periodic power modulation and enhanced dynamic frequency modulation. The latter is an energy transfer service useful for solar energy, allowing for storage of energy during the daytime and dispensing at night. Furthermore, it allows for the dispatch of energy directly to a power trading platform.
Shen said Tatung Group has played an important role in the construction of Taiwan's power infrastructure and the development of domestic smart energy systems. Past highlights of Tatung’s work in this field include the construction of microgrid systems for the outlying islands of Nansha, Dongsha, and Qimei Island.
