TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — New Taipei is set to ring in the new year with a cross-river fireworks display on Dec. 31.
The fireworks show will start at 8:25 p.m. Over 30,000 fireworks will be launched in 13 minutes and 14 seconds, a symbolic gesture as the numbers 13 and 14 sound similar to the Mandarin phrase for “a lifetime together.”
A light show will illuminate the Danjiang Bridge 30 seconds before the fireworks display. The grand finale will feature sky lanterns launched alongside the fireworks.
This year’s display will feature four main colors: yellow, blue, green, and red. Yellow represents vast lands, blue embodies azure shores, green symbolizes forests and ecological conservation, and red signifies the city’s diverse blend of four million residents.
Set to an original musical score, the fireworks will celebrate the city's natural and cultural richness, the city government said.
Starting at 3 p.m. on Dec. 31, activities will include circus performances, family-friendly events, food trucks, and markets on both sides of the Tamsui River. Later at 4 p.m., a lineup of artists will take the stage at Tamsui Fisherman's Wharf.
