TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan trumped South Korea 5-1 at the U12 Asian Baseball Championship in Japan on Friday (Nov. 29).
In the preliminaries, Taiwan recorded two wins and one loss, the only loss being a 0-1 defeat to South Korea, per CNA. In the semifinals, Taiwan defeated China and Japan in succession to advance to the championship game, where they faced Korea again and avenged their previous loss.
Taiwan scored 5 runs in the first inning, establishing a solid lead, per PTS. South Korea scored their first run in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Starter Huang Li-yuan (黃力垣) pitched a complete game, allowing only four hits, striking out five, and issuing two walks, while giving up just one earned run. He led the team to a decisive victory.
On Thursday, Team Taiwan defeated Japan. Friday’s win completes a consecutive championship and secures their eighth title in team history.
