TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The US State Department approved a NT$12.5 billion (US$385 million) arms sale to Taiwan on Friday (Nov. 29).
According to a Defense Security Cooperation Agency press release, the State Department approved the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office’s request for NT$10.39 billion of parts and repair services for F-16 aircraft. Deliveries are expected to begin next year.
In another announcement, the State Department approved TECRO’s request for mobile subscriber equipment worth NT$2.1 billion. A delivery date has not been announced.
The defense ministry thanked the US on Saturday for supporting regional stability, per CNA. It added the follow-up maintenance equipment will maintain the combat readiness of its F-16s.
Last month, the US approved a NT$64 billion arms package to Taiwan which included an advanced defense missile system, Reuters reported.
