TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The 2024 Shilin Residence Chrysanthemum Exhibition debuted on Friday (Nov. 29) and will run for two weeks with 14 exhibition areas featuring 150,000 chrysanthemums.
Each year, the chrysanthemum exhibition is Taipei's most iconic flower show, drawing large crowds and with themes to highlight the creativity of local horticulturalists. The exhibition prides itself on using natural materials for floral arrangement and decoration, such as tree branches, coconut fiber, and bamboo, per UDN.
Huang Yi-ping (黃一平), department deputy director of Taipei City Public Works Department, said the daliju (大立菊), or multifloral type chrysanthemum, is the highlight, standing tall and proud with each petal exuding bright colors. Another highlight is the opening of the residence's nursery greenhouse, unveiling the year-long cultivation of these flowers.
Due to large crowds, the chrysanthemum exhibition is open until 9 p.m., allowing visitors to see flowers at night under special lighting.
To appeal to a wider audience, the chrysanthemum exhibition is offering audio-guided services in Chinese and English. Visitors can scan a QR code to hear an informative message about the chrysanthemum exhibition and the unique characteristics of the flowers.
